The Alignthority® System:
Impact Strategy Meets Data-Driven SEO
The Alignthority® System leverages 15+ years of strategic expertise to ensure your nonprofit's mission is powered by data-driven Search Engine Optimization. We understand that for nonprofits, generic, "copy-paste" SEO is not only ineffective—it's a missed opportunity to amplify your impact. Over my years collaborating with clients on strategic marketing and SEO projects, I've seen too many organizations forced into strategies that failed to prioritize their mission, donor relationships, and ethical imperatives. Our promise is a 100% customized SEO project that is both highly effective at reaching your audience and unwaveringly aligned with your ethical standards.
We are on a mission to ensure your SEO drives greater visibility, engagement, and funding, while remaining laser-focused on achieving your organization's vision for change.
Are These Visibility Challenges Holding Back Your Nonprofit’s Reach?
Nonprofit work has unique constraints and high stakes, and building support is tough work on a good day! I’ve heard so many of the same stories from nonprofit leaders—here are some common obstacles you may be facing:
You're spending precious time and resources on fundraising events instead of focusing on your core mission.
Your site barely ranks on page 5 for vital keywords like "animal rescue near me" or "ways to donate to education."
You rely far too heavily on expensive events, freebies from Google’s ads program, or inconsistent social media posts for traffic.
You know donors and volunteers are searching for you, but they are finding other organizations instead.

The Nonprofit Advantage: Sustainable, High-Impact SEO
SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is not just for for-profit businesses—it's the most cost-effective, long-term way for nonprofits to attract qualified traffic.
But SEO for nonprofits needs to be strategized and implemented differently than for your everyday local business—your needs and goals are different, and your SEO should be too. Our unique Alignthority® approach uses what we call a “Four Sector Alignment™” to develop a comprehensive, sustainable, and targeted approach to building support for your organization via the search engine. The Four Sector Alignment™ approach incorporates audience research for all four core searchers you’re speaking to:
Donors eager to support organizations like yours
Prospective volunteers who want to lend their time to your cause
Cause-curious searchers looking for reliable, high level information about issues
Groups and individuals in need of your services, immediate action-takers, ranging from direct services to facility rentals
“I’ve worked with Sarah Moon at two organizations so far and both experiences couldn’t have been any better. Sarah was extremely responsive and made our website magical in many ways. Traffic to our site has increased exponentially and it has been easy for us to maintain and update the site as needed. Sarah took the time to really understand our organization and our vision and checked in with me every step of the way to make sure she was heading in the right direction. I’m so thankful we found Sarah and can’t imagine working with anyone else.”

Meet Your Nonprofit SEO Strategist, Sarah Moon
Back in the day, I was fortunate enough to work in communications at a major nonprofit, and then translate those skills to public sector roles where I regularly coordinated with our nonprofit and foundation partners. Through that work, I learned just how many critical roles nonprofit organizations play in our communities—from museums connecting people with culture to animal rescues providing essential services to our pets in the most difficult of times, and everything in between.
What I also learned through my work as an agency owner and now a consultant is that it’s also incredibly challenging for the most effective and impactful organizations to get found by their potential supporters. Being the best-kept secret in the nonprofit world is a risky situation, one in which I never want you to find your organization.
That’s why I’m so passionate about making sure that you can get found in Google and beyond—after all, 90 percent of online experiences start with some kind of search. Why would you leave that reality to chance?
If you’re ready to say goodbye to being your community’s best kept secret, reach out and let’s talk about amplifying your visibility with purpose and strategy.
Questions & Answers: SEO for Nonprofits
How will SEO benefit my nonprofit?
Ninety percent of online experiences start with some kind of search—that’s a fact that's remained steady for years and years. Just like with any sector, people are looking for you online. Perhaps they want to find a new organization to support financially, they want to volunteer, they are cause-curious and want to learn more, or they need the services you offer. They’re picking up their phones and Googling, asking Siri, or chatting with a chatbot. If you ignore search, you’re ignoring potential stakeholders, full-stop. l
What’s different about SEO for nonprofits versus for-profit businesses?
You need a different approach because your audiences are more complex, with differing needs. Cookie cutter SEO won’t work for you, because you’re not “the norm.” My team and I use a four-sector approach to aligning your search strategy to these multiple audiences to help ensure you can be found when people need you.
How much does SEO for nonprofits cost?
The short, slightly annoying, answer is, it depends! If you have a small site, you may need a lighter touch versus an organization with a complex website. Clients typically invest between $3,500 and $10,000 usd. While that’s a big range, that’s also because nonprofits have a big range of goals and priorities! We can discuss budgets on an alignment call.
Does SEO require a long ongoing commitment or are flat fee projects something SEO consults offer?
Most SEO agencies focus on ongoing, retainer-style work. However, unless you have a very large, complex website with continual updates occurring, this is likely more than you need. We typically recommend a flat fee SEO project to our nonprofit clients. Most folks do updates with us once a year or so and may book occasional strategy calls with me, Sarah, to check in about content or blogging strategy and similar new website content.
Will an SEO consultant collaborate with our web developer on this project?
We typically are happy to work hand in hand with your web developer. Of course, please make sure that’s okay with them as well! In most cases, if you don’t have a web developer we can handle SEO implementation on your site. Additionally, if you need a new developer, I’m happy to make introductions!
What are the typical timelines for a nonprofit SEO project?
While I can make recommendations for improvement, it’s not possible to do a full audit in one hour. Reach out about our Audit and Opportunities Program if you’re ready to get serious about SEO.
I’m not sure if SEO is right for my nonprofit, how can I ask a question to make sure?
Send an email to hello@sarahmoon.com! If I can’t help, there’s a good chance I know someone awesome who can. A better option is to book a strategy session where we can do some real work together so you can see results right away.
