A Note from Sarah
I'm the founder of Sarah Moon + Co. I oversee the design of each of our projects—and the lead our custom website and strategy projects.
After leading communications departments at nonprofit organizations and government agencies—during which time I appeared in outlets from tiny regional magazines, to Telemundo, NPR and the Washington Post—I founded SMCO in 2008 (almost ten years ago—time sure does fly), on a mission to help organizations and business owners tackle the increasingly complex and intimidating tech/digital marketing challenges they face.
In 2009, I created and began teaching digital communication classes through the Pacific Northwest College of Art’s excellent Continuing Education program, including a comprehensive website design class. Working with students—particularly adult students seeking to improve their skills or enrich their lives—has been some of the most rewarding work of my career. I since expanded my teaching to other organizations, including hosting my own classes, and continue to love working with a variety of learners looking to expand their online marketing. As a result, all of my consulting and web work includes a teaching and training component, as I believe it's critical to empower clients to take control of their marketing and communications efforts as is appropriate for their interest and capacity.
While my initial client website designs were in Wordpress, thanks to my teaching and training work, I discovered Squarespace nearly ten years ago and am proud to say I'm an official Squarespace Specialist—a directory of highly-skilled experts (predating their larger all-comers Circle program) screened by Squarespace—and a Squarespace Authorized Trainer. I also founded the Ladies Who Squarespace group, which is an informal business support group for women who run Squarespace-based design businesses.
While SMCO is known for Squarespace, I consider the company to be "platform agnostic," and determining the best platform to meet our clients' needs is a key part of our work in the "Project Blueprint" phase of our custom website design process.
I’m also an avid reader, founder of two podcasts (one about international basketball, the other about books), DIYer, baseball fan (I was lucky enough to be at Felix Hernandez' perfect game in Seattle), owner of too many ukuleles, amateur winemaker, tea drinker, superfan of the greatest television show ever, Friday Night Lights, and am a collector of many quirky printed dresses. What can I say? I am a woman of many interests!
I'm a proud graduate of American University in Washington, DC and University College Dublin in Ireland. As a dual U.S. and E.U. (Luxembourg, which is an actual country, not a city in Germany, folks) citizen, and as someone who's lived on both sides of the Atlantic, I have an international perspective and I welcome clients from around the globe and in my backyard. I currently live in charming northeast Portland, in my beloved home state of Oregon, with my husband and two wild and crazy Australian Shepherds.
