Free Squarespace Accessibility Course

One of the more common questions I get these days is about website accessibility for persons with disabilities, specifically how to make Squarespace more accessible.

There are many approaches and guidelines, depending on where you live and what kind of organization you are. That, coupled with some big headlines about website accessibility lawsuits, and this is something folks are wondering about. I, for one, think it's great that people are think about this!

In the United States alone 1 in 5 people is living with a disability, over 8 million people have visual impairments, 2 million people are legally blind, over 7 million people have auditory impairments, the list goes on. These are our friends and neighbors and oftentimes are websites are inaccessible to them. We can implement certain best practices, including ensuring that our images have proper descriptions (fun fact: this also helps your SEO!), making proper use of headings, structuring content well, and other things that contribute to the overall user experience.

But, we can also add tools to our Squarespace sites to make our sites friendlier to users with disabilities.

Really clean, simple and easy to use if you need those tools, right?

With all that said, I'm excited to launch a free course all about how to do this for yourself! You can grab access here.

Many of you may know that for many years I taught in-person workshops on design and marketing here in Portland, mostly at a local college, and still occasionally present or teach when it's a great fit. For literally years I've wanted to translate that knowledge online in the form of classes and ebooks, but it's always been challenging to find the time and the right topics. But I challenged myself to just do it, much as I encourage clients to and I'm excited to share this free resource with you.

Some of the future content will be free, other resources will be paid. Others still will be 100% free and exclusive for our clients only. (Design in a Day™ folks, look out for a notice soon!) I'm excited to share what we've got cooked up for you! For now, please enjoy this mini course—I hope my conversational teaching style resonates with you. 😎

If there's enough demand, I'll add a second mini-course on WordPress, but there are presently a number of plugins and tools for that platform, so no promises!
